Whisk utilizes Google’s primary AI service, Gemini, which was introduced in December 2023. It also incorporates Imagen 3, DeepMind’s newest text-to-image generator, to create visually stunning and unique images based on user inputs.
One of the key features of Whisk is its ability to capture the essence of a subject rather than an exact reproduction. This allows for creative interpretations and variations in the final image, adding a unique artistic flair to the generated pictures.
Despite the innovative nature of Whisk, Google has faced some criticism in the past for inaccuracies in its AI-generated images. In February, the company received backlash for creating historically incorrect pictures with Gemini’s text-to-image converter. Whisk is currently only available on a US-only Google Labs website and is still in the early stages of development. However, the product has already garnered interest and excitement from consumers and analysts alike.
Dan Ives, managing director and senior equities analyst at Wedbush Securities, sees Whisk as another opportunity for Google to showcase its AI capabilities and flex its tech muscles. He views AI products like Whisk as a key component of Google’s future growth and innovation strategy.
In addition to AI products like Whisk, Google has a wide range of new products in its 2025 “treasure chest,” including a new Android operating system developed in partnership with Samsung and Qualcomm. DeepMind, Google’s AI arm, is seen as a key asset for the company, driving innovation and growth in the rapidly evolving AI landscape.
